JACKSON — With so many life-altering events going on in the world today, some second-graders in Jack-son have created a recipe to capture the spirit of Valentine’s Day.

The ingredients sound simple enough but are often overlooked in everyday life: an ounce of love, a scoop of hugs, a sprinkle of kisses.

"First add some love! Next add an ounce of hugs and kisses. To make everything nice. Last put it on a tray to be ready to serve. When you see their faces say ‘I love you,’ " Shelbey wrote.

The Valentine’s Day project was completed in the classroom of Nina Bialecki at the Lucy M. Holman Elementary School.

Catherine whipped up a recipe for a love potion complete with everything from angels to sugar and spice.

"First you add an ounce of angels," the youngster wrote. "Slowly add hearts, then mix hugs and kisses. Next stir in spices, sugar and love. Finally mix care and honey and then add everything nice. Then you put it on a tray and serve the love potion."

The students were given a list of eight words as suggestions, but needed no prodding to come up with these special mixtures.

"First add sugar and hugs," says Michael’s recipe. "Then mix in a scoop of angels. Add an ounce of kisses. Stir slowly. Gently put on a tray and cook. Serve to my mom with a smile."

Tonight’s dinner at the house of these students sounds like a recipe for success.
